By engaging volunteers to deliver research-based, horticulture information in California communities, the UC Master Gardener Program increases capacity to meet local needs, grows credibility with residents through connecting them with trusted neighbors, and nurtures emerging land stewards through training and continuing education. Effective leadership and management of volunteers leads to improved satisfaction and retention rates for both volunteers and professionals such as program coordinators, advisors and county directors.
