Vegetable Crops in Yolo, Solano & Sacramento counties

The Vegetable Crops Program fosters appropriate research and collects and disseminates relevant information to growers, processors and related industries in the California vegetable industry.

Program focus
Processing tomato is the highest valued vegetable crop grown in Yolo, Solano & Sacramento counties. Gross farm gate value is $375 million on 55,000 plus acres (2023) in the three counties, and is the historic focus of the area Vegetable Crops program. Other important vegetable crops include peppers, sweet corn, pickling cucumbers, onions & garlic, pumpkins, and various vegetable crops grown for seed.

Most of the research is conducted in commercial fields in cooperation with growers. Research is often collaborative with UC Specialists. Research-based information is extended to clientele via grower meetings, newsletters, field consultations, telephone calls, and field meetings.
