Statewide Evaluation

The statewide evaluation is a required program activity that measures how the UC Master Gardener Program impacts the communities we serve in every county across California. This is possible by collecting behavior change data, demographic data, and land-use data from educational workshops and events.

The statewide evaluation collects behavior change data after education events on:

  • right-plant right-place
  • green waste
  • pest management
  • pollinator-friendly gardens
  • water conservation
  • food gardening

Counties can download and view local and statewide reports hosted in the Statewide Evaluation BOX folder. Counties can expect to receive their local quarterly reports at the end of January, April, July, and October.

Program Evaluation Toolkit

A comprehensive Statewide Evaluation Toolkit is available as a one-stop resource for conducting and managing the statewide evaluation survey. The toolkit is organized into three essential sections:

  • internal training
  • socializing the survey
  • collecting the data

Evaluation Training

Statewide evaluation training is provided annually and provides a general overview of the process and resources available. You can also setup one-on-one training for your county program if you would like additional support.

Impact Report

The biennial statewide impact report turns the data we collect from the statewide evaluation survey to tell our story. The impact report is a valuable tool for promoting our program at the local level. Data from statewide evaluation efforts are used in our biennial impact report to communicate and celebrate how the UC Master Gardener Program makes a positive impact in the communities it serves.
