Packing Project

The Packing Project

The San Luis Obispo County 4-H Horse & Mule Packing Project offers youth a unique opportunity to delve into the traditional art of equine packing. This hands-on program teaches members how to prepare horses and mules for backcountry travel, covering essential skills such as loading pack animals, securing gear, and navigating trail logistics.

Participants gain practical experience through clinics and trail rides, learning to balance loads, tie knots, and ensure the safety and comfort of their animals in various terrains. This project not only enhances horsemanship but also fosters leadership, responsibility, and a deep appreciation for outdoor adventures.

Whether you're new to 4-H or an experienced rider looking to expand your skills, the Horse & Mule Packing Project welcomes all interested youth in SLO County. Join us to explore the backcountry, develop valuable life skills, and become part of a supportive equestrian community.
