The UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Water Resources Management Program partners with residents, tribes, farmers, water managers, and local organizations across Mendocino and Lake Counties to support healthy watersheds, sustainable water use, and climate-resilient communities.
This work is led locally by Dr. Laura Garza, the Area Water Resources Management Advisor for Mendocino and Lake Counties. Dr. Garza holds a Ph.D. in Hydrologic Sciences from the University of California, Davis, with a specialization in Water Resources Management and Policy.
The program provides science-based information, tools, and resources to help people navigate complex water challenges, from droughts and floods, to surface-groundwater management, ecosystem resilience, and long-term planning for water security. The program spans across diverse landscapes and communities — from coastal areas to inland valleys — and within important river systems like the Russian River, Eel River, Clear Lake, and Cache Creek watersheds.
Through workshops, applied research, and local partnerships, we aim to bridge science with community knowledge and foster connections that lead to long-term stewardship of our shared water resources.
Whether you’re a grower, resident, water manager, or simply someone who cares about your local watershed — we’re here to help support your efforts and work together toward a more resilient future for Mendocino and Lake Counties.
