About the Event

Rose Propagation by Stem Cutting

Description: In this workshop, you will learn about the many different type of roses, why some roses are better for propagating than others and the different ways to propagate depending on the season. Master Gardener Yvonne Liu will demonstrate rose propagation by stem cutting. Afterward, you will have a chance to prepare your own cutting and container; please bring your hand pruner.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Yvonne Liu: Born in Shanghai, Yvonne spent her formative years in Hong Kong where she trained as a classical pianist. After attending the California Institute of Technology and Stanford, Yvonne worked in the investment banking industry. She soon became a stay-at-home mom to care for her sons, one of whom was diagnosed with autism at age 2. Witnessing the power of music on children, she became a licensed Kindermusik teacher and taught studio classes and preschools. At the same time, she maintained a private piano studio for elite students at her home. Since 1995 Yvonne has been a student of the Ikenobo school of flower arrangement. Her love of flowers propelled her to join the San Mateo County Rose Society. She became a UC Master Gardener in 2024.
