Filler, Spiller, Thriller: How to Create Lush Container Gardens

Description: In this online class, you will learn how to use the filler, spiller, thriller method of container planting. Create a gorgeous container garden that will carry you through spring, summer and fall. This workshop, presented by UC Master Gardener Arete Nicholas, is geared towards all levels of gardening—from the very beginner to the experienced. Learn how to create planters overflowing with colorful flowers, herbs and trailing plants and how to refresh them after planting as the seasons change.

UC Master Gardener Presenter Arete Nicholas: Arete has been a Master Gardener for over ten years. She has an award-winning garden in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood, which was featured in the 2014 & 2018 Noe Valley Garden Tour. It also won 2nd place in the city-wide San Francisco Flowercraft sponsored Great Garden Contest of 2014. Arete is currently an active member of the Master Gardener Public Education Committee and has been instrumental in organizing gardening talks at the San Francisco Public Libraries.

Her special interests are California Native plants, growing old roses and herbs, and working with clients to create Sacred Garden Spaces and healing gardens for meditation, reflection and prayer. Arete received an M.A. in Gerontology and an R.N., B.S.N., and Ph.N. from San Francisco State University.
