Basics of Raising Chickens in your Backyard
Have you thought about raising chickens in your backyard? Would you like to have farm-fresh organic eggs for breakfast every day? Do you know what resources will be required and how much it will cost? Come join our class! Master Gardener Cindy Burgdorf will introduce you to the world of Backyard Chicken Raising. In this class, you will learn:
- What questions to ask yourself BEFORE you start
- Basics of raising chicks
- Breed choices
- Feed requirements
- Safe and healthy coop requirements
- Egg production
Speaker Bio: Cindy Burgdorf has been a Master Gardener for 15 years. She has year-round vegetable gardens, gardens devoted to bees and butterflies, five bee hives, six chickens, a worm bin and six compost bins. Her yard is a Monarch Waystation (Monarch Watch), a certified Butterfly Garden (NABA), certified WildLife Habitat (NWF) and certified Bee Friendly Garden (Pollinator Partnership).
