by Penny Pawl, UC Master Gardener of Napa County I remember when my parents would go for a drive and the front of the car would be covered with dead bugs that had been hovering in the road. That doesn't happen any longer. The dense populations of bugs have disappeared.

Invasive shot hole borers (ISHB) are tiny beetles that are posing a significant threat in Ventura County and beyond. There's new information provided in a recent blog post that appeared on website of the Channel Islands Chapter of the Community Association Institute in January 2021.

Barman named UCCE IPM advisor in Imperial County Apurba Barman joined UC Cooperative Extension as low desert integrated pest management advisor on Jan. 11, 2021. He will be headquartered at the UCCE Imperial County office, which adjoins the UC Desert Research and Extension Center in Holtville.

The Intermountain Research and Extension Center is soliciting proposals from researchers for new and continuing research projects in 2021-22. IREC is a 140-acre research facility located at 4,000 feet elevation near the Oregon border.

As we close out the first month of the New Year, our hope for the UC Master Gardener Program is that 2021 will be a year of continued growth in gardening education and support for our neighbors, friends, and communities.

Bed bugs can hitch rides on secondhand furniture, luggage, backpacks and other personal items to invade homes and attack people. While we rest and sleep on sofas and beds, the insects come out to feed. They want to suck our blood.
