Educating yourself about environmental issues can inspire action to improve the world around you. By cultivating an awareness of environmental challenges both near and far, one might discover opportunities to engage and learn about real-world solutions. Learning a little can pique interest to explore attitudes and different perspectives of individuals and societies, and can build skills which serve as bridges to participation in actions which can reduce our environmental impact.
The Environmental Stewards Program within UC ANR, promotes environmental literacy and stewardship through their two extended learning courses for adults; the California Naturalist and Climate Stewards. Both courses offer the chance to obtain a certificate and UC college credits if so desired. Each course combines learning (in-person and virtual) with stewardship activities, including participatory science and service-learning.
