Diversity Equity and Inclusion Opportunities

Improving Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Cooperative Extension continues to be a goal for the UC Master Gardener Program. To truly achieve our mission we must peruse educational opportunities that help build skills in these areas.  There are several upcoming opportunities for employees to do just that. UC Agriculture and Natural Resources has a list of resources available to staff around diversity, equity and inclusion. UC Davis Learning and Development is offering employees a series of online, cross-cultural competency classes.

Cross-Cultural Competence Certificate Series (Employees only)

Cultural competence is defined as a set of behaviors, attitudes, and policies that help organizations and staff work effectively with people of different cultures. The cross-cultural competence certificate series consist of 6 classes that explore the rich dynamics of cross-cultural interactions and provides participants with knowledge and skill to increase their effectiveness in relating across cultural differences.

Registration is now open for, all classes are virtual instructor-led:

This series is offered through UC Davis Learning and Development, those that complete the series in its entirety will receive a certificate of completion.  Any issues with registration or clarification about the certificate series should be directed towards UC Davis Learning and Development unit https://hr.ucdavis.edu/contact/staff-directory/ucd-sdps

Improving All Reasonable Efforts to Diverse Audiences Training

The education and work surrounding all reasonable efforts (ARE) is important as it ensures we expand access to people from traditionally underrepresented groups with program activities. In 2020 staff participated in ARE training and learned about qualifying ARE activities and were given the opportunity to report their work efforts through a short 5-minute survey later that year.

Civil right compliance is an integral part of many of our positons is the UC in that we ensure benefits of programs are made eligible participants in a non-discriminatory manner.

Through promoting nondiscrimination and valuing of differences among staff and clientele we demonstrate the value we place on inclusivity and diversity.

Kit Alviz will be hosting another training this year, the all reasonable efforts training and survey is back for 2022. More information will be available soon. 2020 training link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkDuI9FSr1E
