Rethinking the Lawn

Program: Got a green monster in your garden? Is your tired lawn soaking up lots of water but providing little usefulness? In this presentation, you’ll learn why lawns are not eco-friendly, watch a short video that shows the best method to easily eliminate one, and discover how to decide the best use for the space. We’ll discuss the latest in walkable plants, plus a host of other possibilities that’s sure to broaden your definition of “lawn alternative.”

Speaker: Marie Narlock has been a UC Marin Master Gardener since 2004. She studied landscape design through the UC Berkeley Extension and Merritt College and completed sustainable landscape classes at Sonoma State University. She writes articles for the Marin IJ and is co-founder and co-editor of the Leaflet, the Marin Master Gardener e-newsletter. Marie has participated in many MMG projects over the years, including the Marin County Fair demonstration gardens. Marie advocates using native plants in the garden both for their beauty and to help maintain Marin's biodiversity.
