Join CDFW, Trout Unlimited, CAL FIRE, and UCCE for a salmon spawning survey in the redwoods.
DATE: 6 January 2024
TIME: 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
LOCATION: Jackson Demonstration State Forest, Camp 1
CDFW have three monitoring stations where intensive life cycle monitoring takes place. The data gathered there is used to inform the rest of the salmon surveying in the region.
If we’re lucky, and conditions allow, we’ll have a chance to observe salmon spawning in the Little North Fork Noyo.
• How many redds (egg masses) does each salmon lay?
• How many juveniles return to the same river as adults?
• What can be done to restore salmon habitat in our local rivers?
These are a few of the questions being explored by the fish biologists you will meet on a cold day in January. Informational booths will be set up to share the story behind various tools of the trade.
Contact Kyle Farmer if you have questions, kfarmer@ucanr.edu or (707) 463-4495.
