Taxodium distichum  (tack-SO-dee-um  DISS-tick-um)

  • From Southwest U.S. found commonly in Florida swamps and the bayous of Louisiana
  • Will grow in standing water which would drown most trees
  • Related to Redwood trees and NOT the Monterey Cypress
  • Deciduous conifer like dawn redwood
  • Can grow to 100 feet tall
  • Feathery, alternately arranged leaves with a ‘weepy’ effect
