Course Description

Richardson Bay Audubon’s Youth Leaders program gives local teenagers an opportunity to explore a career in environmental conservation and to deepen their understanding of California natural history. Through outdoor education and hands-on field training, this paid internship will help participants gain local ecological knowledge, habitat restoration skills, peer and instructor mentorship, and valuable experience in the environmental field. Upon completion of the internship, interns earn the California Naturalist certification.

Organization Description: Since 1957, Richardson Bay Audubon has protected birds and the environments they need through community engagement and collaboration. The unique eelgrass ecosystem underpinning the 900-acre subtidal sanctuary is ground zero for wintering waterbirds, and conservation efforts are focused on protecting and restoring this critical habitat. We use our site as an outdoor classroom to inspire stewardship and engage future conservation leaders of all backgrounds and identities in our community. At Audubon, we seek to create conditions where both birds and human communities can thrive.
