As readers of this space know, I from time to time post job announcements with relevance to our area, and especially those oriented towards working in the berries.

This one, Area County Director for Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties, is actually more relevant than most because this position will replace my role as County Director for Santa Cruz County.  Some mixed feelings of course, because I think I've done a pretty decent job of running this office during these past 10 years; it hasn't always been easy (nor has it always been hard either) but I've got a fabulous team here and we've done a great deal of good.

Once this position is filled, I'll revert to 100% Farm Advisor in strawberries and caneberries.

Job description is attached below, I will underline this is a very good group of Advisors and staff in these three counties, and a skilled administrator could really take this team to a seriously high level of performance and service to the community.  I want to add here that the University is an excellent employer.

Job Description: The Area County Director is responsible for the coordination and overall operation of University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) programs in Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz Counties. Responsibilities include providing oversight of UCCE educational and applied research programs; providing direction and leadership to UCCE academic and support staff; maintaining effective communication within UC and county government; securing adequate UCCE county budgets; maintaining positive working relationships with partnering public and private agencies; and expanding collaborations and funding sources. The Area County Director will increase the visibility of UCCE by communicating the positive impacts and benefits realized by the citizens and workforce of the local counties, region and state through the activities and contributions of local UCCE programs.
